Dresser Organization: A Guide to Neat and Tidy Drawers

Magic Closets

As a hard-working parent of two young children, I know how quickly a neat and tidy home space can turn into a cluttered source of stress.  There were days my three year old would pull all the folded socks out of my dresser and hide them throughout the room, oh what fun that was!  It turns out that disrupting the morning routine can throw off the flow of the entire day!  The dresser is one of those early morning encounters that should be easy and painless.  It’s important that we give it the attention it deserves.

Below are a few tips that I've picked up along the way.

Assess and purge: The first step in organizing your dresser is to assess what you actually need and get rid of what you don’t.  Go through each drawer and get rid of clothes that you haven’t worn in the past year, items that no longer fit or clothes that are too damaged to wear.

Group similar items together: This could be putting  all your socks in one drawer, all your pjs in another, etc. This makes it easier to find what you need and streamlines the process of getting dressed.

Fold and stack: Fold items such as intimates, pjs, and sweats neatly and store them in the dresser drawers.  Use the KonMari folding method to maximize space in your drawers.  Stackable bins can also be a great way to keep your folded items organized and accessible.

Drawer Dividers: Dividers are a great way to keep small items such as, socks and underwear organized and easy to find. Label the dividers to make it even easier to find what you need.

Invest in Drawer Organizers: organizers can help you maximize the space in your drawers and keep items neat.  We used these recently in our nursery room closet and ended up saving a ton of space!  You'll need to choose organizers that fit your specific needs and the size of your drawers.

Keep it clean:  Regularly clean and dust your dresser to keep it looking its best. Our dresser organizers are easily removable and can be wiped down with a damp cloth.  Also, wipe down the exterior and the drawers and consider using a fabric freshener to keep clothes smelling fresh.

These tips have helped us keep the clutter at bay and can work for you as well.  Remember, a well organized dresser saves time, reduces stress and makes getting dressed easy. So start organizing your dresser today and enjoy the benefits of a tidy and functional home space!
